StupidGames ("we", "us", "our") operates the free browser-game website at stupidgames.online. This Privacy & Cookie Policy explains what information we collect, how we use cookies and similar technologies, the third parties we work with (including Google AdSense and Google Analytics), and the choices and rights you have. By using the site you agree to this policy.
The short version
- The games store small bits of data in your browser (high scores, settings, your cookie choice). That stays on your device unless stated below.
- We use analytics to see which games people enjoy — only with your consent.
- We show ads (Google AdSense) and affiliate offers to keep the site free. Ad partners may use cookies — personalized advertising runs only with your consent.
- You can change your choices anytime via "Manage cookie settings" (above and in the footer), and opt out of personalized ads directly with Google (links below).
Who we are & how to reach us
StupidGames is an independent website that turns dull, high-stakes topics — finance, insurance, tech, wellness and more — into short comedy browser games, each paired with a plain-English explainer. For privacy questions or data requests, contact us at privacy@stupidgames.online or via our Contact page. Learn more About us.
Cookies & similar technologies
Cookies are small files stored on your device; we also use your browser's local storage. We group them into three categories:
Strictly necessary — always on. Includes your cookie-consent choice and game data (scores, mute, progress) kept in your browser's local storage. The site can't function without these, and they don't track you across other sites.
Analytics — optional. Anonymous usage measurement (Google Analytics 4) so we can see which games are popular and fix what's broken. Runs only after you opt in.
Advertising — optional. Google AdSense and its partners may set and read cookies to serve, cap, and measure ads. Personalized ads run only after you opt in; if you decline, you may still see non-personalized ads (these use cookies only for frequency capping, aggregate reporting, and fraud prevention).
Information we collect
- On your device (local storage): game high scores, settings, and your consent choice. We do not transmit these to a server.
- Analytics data (with consent): pages viewed, games played, approximate region, device/browser type, and anonymized usage events. We do not collect your name, email, or address.
- Advertising data (with consent): handled by Google and ad partners — see the section below.
- Marketing attribution: if you arrive from an ad campaign, the URL may carry parameters (e.g.
utm_source,clickid) that we keep for the session to credit the traffic source. No personal profile is built. - Server logs: like most websites, our hosting infrastructure may automatically process standard technical logs (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps) for security, abuse prevention, and reliable delivery.
Advertising & Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to display advertising. To do this, Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies. Specifically:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website and/or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Google may use the advertising/DoubleClick cookie to associate ad activity in a way that does not personally identify you.
You can control or opt out of personalized advertising:
- Opt out of personalized ads from Google at Google Ad Settings.
- Opt out of many third-party vendors' cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
- Review how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
How we manage consent (Google Consent Mode v2)
Our cookie banner is connected to Google Consent Mode v2. Before any Google tag activates, consent is set to denied by default, so no analytics or advertising identifiers are stored until you choose. When you accept, your choice updates the Consent Mode signals (analytics_storage, ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization) and full measurement and/or personalized ads begin. For visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland, advertising consent is gathered through a Google-certified consent management solution as required by Google's EU user consent policy. You can withdraw or change consent at any time via "Manage cookie settings".
Push notifications
You can optionally choose to receive web push notifications (for example, when a new game or quiz drops). These are strictly opt-in: nothing is sent unless you click "Allow" and then grant your browser's notification permission. We use OneSignal to deliver them; when you subscribe, OneSignal stores an anonymous push subscription (a browser-generated token, plus standard technical details like device/browser type and approximate region) on our behalf — it is not linked to your name or email. You can unsubscribe at any time in your browser's site settings or notification settings, and declining or ignoring the prompt means no subscription is created.
Third-party services
- Google AdSense (advertising) — How Google uses data for ads.
- Google Analytics 4 (analytics) — Google Privacy Policy.
- OneSignal (push notifications, only if you opt in) — OneSignal Privacy Policy.
- Affiliate partners — if you click an affiliate offer, that company's own privacy policy applies on their site.
- Hosting / content delivery — a third-party hosting provider serves the site and processes standard server logs for delivery and security.
Data retention
Device data (scores, settings, consent) remains until you clear your browser storage. Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics settings (up to 14 months) in aggregated, anonymized form. We do not maintain personal-account records because the site has no login or signup.
Your choices & rights
Everyone: accept, reject, or customize non-essential cookies any time via "Manage cookie settings", and clear cookies/local storage in your browser.
GDPR (EEA/UK): you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, and to object to processing. Our legal basis for optional cookies is your consent, which you can withdraw anytime without affecting prior processing.
CCPA/CPRA (California): you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing". Rejecting advertising cookies acts as an opt-out signal, and we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal where supported.
Children's privacy
StupidGames is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. Material changes will be posted here with a new "last updated" date; significant changes may also be surfaced via the cookie banner.
